Undergraduate Thesis Student As a former Undergraduate Student Research Award recipient and thesis student, I investigated whether the cognitive effects of depression enhanced analytical thinking in response to a social conflict. This summer, I am building upon my thesis project by determining whether an analytical, ruminative coping strategy is associated with resolution of the depression-triggering interpersonal harm. Additionally, I am collaborating with Dr. Andrews on an article discussing the health consequences of antidepressant medications, and working with Sangeeta on a psychometric paper presenting a newly developed, validated questionnaire that measures depressed mood. I was drawn to the Evo-Health Lab because of the multidisciplinary nature of the research and Dr. Andrews’ emphasis on critical thinking, statistical and communication skills. The broad knowledge I have obtained in the Honours Psychology, Neuroscience & Behaviour program at McMaster along with the research experience I gain in the Evo-Health Lab will further my pursuit of a career in medicine and mental health research and advocacy. |
