I developed a keen interest in Dr. Andrews’ approach to depression in second year, after having read several of his papers. His paper describing the efficacy of antidepressants made me wonder if drugs are the best treatment for depression and if less harmful and more effective treatments exist for depression. Andrews’ paper illustrating depression as a ruminative process encouraged me to think about depression from a cognitive perspective and seek to understand its analytical benefits.

I joined the Evo-Health Lab because of its novel approach to depression and I believe much can be learnt when approaching problems from a new perspective. I hope to explore how analytical rumination affects problem-solving skills and how this enhanced processing can solve complex problems underlying depression.
